Seas And Lakes Of Mayo And Connemara

6 days / 5 nights- €950

A tour of some of the most majestic scenery Ireland has to offer combined with amazing people and friendly pubs will make this trip one to remember.

Day 1: Westport

We will meet in the town of Westport in Mayo and after a short introduction to the town you will be transferred to your accommodation for the week to a log cabin in the mountains.

Day 2: Erriff – Lough Mask – Tourmakeady – Lough Nafooey -Leenane
About 65km with some tough hills.

Today’s cycle will take us along the Erriff Valley through the mountains and down to the village of Tourmakeady on the shores of Lough Mask. We will be making lots of stops along the way for photos and also to fill our water bottled from the mountain streams. The views as we descend to Lough Mask are truly spectacular and with 360 degree vistas. Our lunch break is in an old traditional pub on the shores of the lake. Lough Mask is one of the best fishing lakes in Ireland and holds world fly fishing competitions annually. We will now leave the lake behind us but not before long another one appears in the distance. This is Lough Nafooey, the site of an ancient volcano some 490 million years ago. Mountains surround us as we make our way through the valley and over the hills. We stop to get a glimpse of another waterfall before our final ascend. All the mountain ranges of Connemara can be seen from here and they are truly amazing. Leenane is our final destination today and we relax and enjoy a well deserved drink before being transferred back to your lodge. Dinner tonight in Westport.

Day 3:

We start today’s trip with a nice easy cycle to the small village of Drummin before we hit the hills of Maum. This is a tough enough climb but well worth the effort as when we reach the top we are rewarded with views of the Clew Bay and Clare island and in the distance Achill Island. We make our way downhill and visit a lovely beach and time for a short break before we move on to the small town of Louisburgh. After lunch we head on to Delphi as the mountains of Mwellrea and Ben Gorm shadow us on our way. When we reach Doo Lough and Finlough lakes you will not be surprised why this is one of the most beautiful places in Ireland. As we pass the lakes it is not long before we reach Killary Harbour, Irelands only Fjord. There will be plenty of photo opportunities along the harbour before we reach Ashleagh Falls at the mouth of the Fjord. If we are lucky we will get to see salmon migrating upriver to spawn and once more returning to their place of birth. We then move on a short distance to a lovely pub overlooking Killary harbour where our day ends and after refreshments you are transferred back to your lodge.

Day4:

We travel with our bus a short trip to start today’s tour in Leenane. We will be heading to the villages of Maam and Cong and through bogs and Lakes and mountains. The scenery as we cycle along is amazing and we will be making plenty of photo stops to capture the vistas.

Day 5:

Today’s cycle starts in Maam and across a gentle climb to Maam Cross, before heading for Screeb and Kilkieran and to Carna, a small fishing village in South Connemara.
