The Mountains Of Connemara And Mayo

7 days / 6 nights – From €950

Day 1: Saturday

Your tour begins with your arrival at Westport train at station at 16:15 or by other means if travelling by car. You will do a short tour of the town of Westport before being driven to your accommodation where you will be briefed on the mornings walk. Your lodging for the week is in a log cabin in the Partry Mountains.  Dinner tonight in Westport.

Day 2: Partry and Maumtrasna Mountains
Walking time about 5 hours +600m

The walk starts just outside your accommodation at Eaglewood Lodge. Today we are heading for the Partry and Maumtrasna Mountains. We ascend through a forest and cross a stream as we head on up the mountain. Before long the mountain ranges of Sheeffry, Mweelrea, Croagh Patrick and Nephin emerge from the horizon. We make our way to Glenawough Lake and get a majestic view from the ridge above it. The Erriff River and valley can be seen far below with green pastures and bog land combining to make this a very unique area. We then head west along the flat summit of Maumtrasna and get a 360 degree panoramic view before our descent to Glenacolly and back to the lodge. This is one of the biggest mountains in the West of Ireland and very complex.
Dinner tonight in Leenane.

Day 3: Leenane Hill
Walking time about 4.5 hours. + 741m.

Today’s walk starts in Leenane village on the shores of Killary Harbour, Ireland’s only fjord. There is some fabulous scenery on this walk out over the Harbour and Ashleagh Falls as the river Erriff makes its way out to the Atlantic. Ben Gorm and Mwellrea can be seen across the fjord and the ever-changing light makes this area a painter’s paradise.
Dinner tonight in Leenane.

Day 4:

Today is rest day. If you would like to try other activities then this can be arranged in advance. Alternatively take a trip to Westport for some rest and relaxation and some shopping.
Dinner tonight on your own. We will meet in a local pub in the evening for some drinks and chat before returning to the lodge.

Day 5: Mweelrea Mountain
Walking time 5 hours + 814m

We travel a small distance this morning through the Delphi valley to arrive at our starting point. Mweelrea is the highest mountain in Mayo and all of Connaught. The views are spectacular as we ascend with Doolough Lake to the West and Finlough Lake and Bundorragha River to the South. The sights from the summit out over the Atlantic Ocean are amazing with beaches surrounding the base of the mountain. We descend looking down on the Killary Fjord and Delphi. Dinner tonight in Westport.

Day 6: Croagh Patrick:

Walking time about 3 hours + 764m.

Ireland’s holy mountain for over five thousand years is a good way to finish your tour on. Every year over twenty thousand people ascend for all types of reasons religious or otherwise. It is a gentle climb with Clew Bay in the background as we ascend. There are some 365 islands in and around Clew Bay and on a fine day each one can be seen. There is a small church on top and today the mountain is also used for adventure sports. We arrive back at base for light refreshment before returning to your lodge. Dinner tonight Leenane.
